About the Coast: How to Get Here

How to Get Here.

By Car:

If you are crossing the border from the United States or are coming from outside the province of BC, just stay on Highway 1 (the TransCanada Highway) to its end at Horseshoe Bay. Follow the signs to the ferry terminal.

The ferries leave Horseshoe Bay every two hours starting at 7:20 am, with the last boat at 9:15 pm. (Note: Sometimes in the summer extra sailings and late sailings are added. Call 1-888-BCFERRY for details. The ferries can be very, very full in the summer - especially on long weekends - and you may want to budget your time for a possible two or four hour layover in scenic Horseshoe Bay.)

See the BC Ferries website for more information.

The ferry ride offers spectacular scenery and takes about 40 minutes. *Remember, you pay only to get on the coast, not off. That's half the price of going to Vancouver Island! So your ticket is actually good for a round trip.

From the Langdale terminal you have three options: turn right towards Langdale and Port Mellon, left for the scenic route through lower Gibsons or straight ahead up the hill to bypass lower Gibsons and get on the highway to Roberts Creek, Sechelt and Pender Harbour.

Mileage from Langdale Ferry Terminal to:

Port Mellon 13 km
Gibsons 5 km
Roberts Creek 14 km
Wilson Creek 23 km
Davis Bay 24 km
Selma Park 26 km
Sechelt 27km
Halfmoon Bay 43 km
Secret Cove 51 km
Madeira Park 63 km
Garden Bay 75 km
Ruby Lake 76 km
Skookumchuck Trail 86 km
Egmont 87 km

From Powell River, drive southeast to Saltery Bay and catch a ferry to Earls Cove at the top of the Sunshine Coast. These boats also go every two hours - from 5:45 am to 9:40 pm - and also get very full very fast in the summer. There is one main road - Highway 101 - which takes you from one end of the Sunshine Coast to the other.
